Spill the Word Fest: The Aagaz of This Year’s Season
Every festival season needs a strong opening and Spill the Word Fest is this year’s. It is the first fest listed on the calendar of fests, making it the aagaz, the beginning, of the season ahead. Think of it as an opening ceremony for everything that follows: a curtain-raiser for a year of stories, conversations and creative energy.
The fest falls on a Saturday and Sunday so your weekend plan is already set. Two days, one shared love of language and an open-air setting in the heart of Gomti Nagar.
Naresh Saxena Returns to Spill the Word Fest
This season’s Spill the Word Fest lineup brings back one of Hindi poetry’s most respected voices: Naresh Saxena. He is regarded as one of the finest Hindi poets, both popular and critically acclaimed and his body of work has earned him several prestigious honours, including the Pahal Samman, the Nagarjun Puraskar and the Uttar Pradesh government’s Sahitya Bhushan Samman. His poetry collections have been published by leading Hindi publishing houses, Bharatiya Jnanpith and Rajkamal Prakashan, a mark of the serious literary standing his writing holds in the Hindi poetry world.
Spill the Word Fest is no stranger to Naresh Saxena either. He was part of the fest last year, where he spoke and took part in the panel discussion “Aaj Ki Kavitayen,” a conversation that put contemporary poetry at the centre of the room. The session asked what poetry looks like today, how it speaks to a new generation, and what it means to write verse in changing times. His presence gave the discussion depth and perspective, and audiences left with plenty to reflect on. His return this year carries that thread forward, bringing back a voice that is already woven into the fest’s story.
